My Devotion Review: Luxury Shampoo, but Make It Chic
My Devotion review, full disclosure first: I tested Dolce&Gabbana My Devotion Eau de Parfum Intense through three samples rather than a full bottle. That gave me enough perfume for several proper wearings, but this remains a sample-based review and not the result of living with a bottle for months.
I should also confess that I am not approaching the Devotion family as a neutral observer. I own both the original Eau de Parfum and the Intense, and I adore them. I love their unapologetic sweetness, their warmth and those bottles decorated with the Sacred Heart. I even own the adorable 20 ml heart-shaped limited edition, because apparently restraint was never part of my fragrance journey.
My Devotion is the one I like least among the three versions I have tested so far. I have not yet tried Your Devotion, which has only just launched, so the family ranking may still become unnecessarily complicated. For now, however, this pale pink bottle is beautiful, the scent is pleasant and I remain surprisingly capable of not buying it. An important personal milestone.
My Devotion review: first impressions from three samples
The official composition, created by Olivier Cresp, opens with pear blossom and blackcurrant. Peony and orange blossom form the floral heart, while Madagascar vanilla, ambrox and amberwood shape the base. Dolce&Gabbana describes it as floral and gourmand, with a balance between luminous and enveloping notes.
My first impression is far less poetic: expensive shampoo. Very expensive shampoo, obviously. We are not discussing a family-size bottle abandoned in a gym shower. This is glossy hair, a silk robe and bathroom lighting designed by someone with opinions. Still, the clean, fruity floral effect is the first thing my nose registers.
That shampoo-like quality is not unpleasant. In fact, it gives the fragrance an easy, polished freshness. The blackcurrant may be responsible for part of the juicy effect, while pear blossom and peony reinforce the airy floral character. Nothing feels dense or sticky. It is soft, bright and immediately wearable.
Less dessert, more fruit cocktail
My Devotion is noticeably less sweet than its predecessors. The original Devotion gives me strong panettone vibes, with luminous citrus folded into a warm vanilla pastry effect. Devotion Intense feels toastier and darker, with a nutty nuance that reminds me of hazelnut. Both have a rich gourmand personality and both make their presence known.
My Devotion turns down the sugar. Its sweetness is quieter and more diffused, as though the dessert trolley has been replaced by a fruity cocktail. The vanilla is still there, but it does not dominate the composition. Instead, the perfume remains airy, floral and gently juicy.
This lighter approach makes sense as part of the collection. It offers an alternative for someone who enjoys the Devotion aesthetic but finds the original versions too dense or too edible. Personally, I came to Devotion precisely for the edible drama, so naturally I miss it when it leaves the room.

A softer evolution
The development on my skin is fairly smooth. The initial clean floral effect gradually softens, while the fruit becomes less sparkling and the base grows warmer. Ambrox and amberwood give the composition a musky, polished finish rather than an obviously woody one.
I never reach the deep, toasted comfort of Devotion Intense or the festive pastry effect of the original. My Devotion remains more translucent from beginning to end. It feels like the spring and summer member of the family, easier to wear in warm weather and more suitable for daytime.
There is something cheerful about it, but not especially dramatic. It smells groomed, pretty and effortless. If the original Devotion arrives carrying panettone and the Intense brings roasted hazelnuts, My Devotion turns up with a fruit cocktail and extremely shiny hair.
Performance, for those who care
On my skin, longevity is decent rather than exceptional. Projection also feels softer than the other two Devotion fragrances, which are considerably more powerful on me. That difference reinforces the impression of a lighter, more intimate interpretation.
Performance is never the deciding factor in my reviews. I wear a perfume because I enjoy it, not because it can introduce itself to the entire neighbourhood before I enter the room. Still, anyone expecting the strength of Devotion Eau de Parfum or Devotion Intense should know that My Devotion behaves more quietly on my skin.
The bottle is the real threat
Will I buy it? At the moment, it is not a priority. The fragrance is pleasant and easy to wear, but it does not give me the same immediate pleasure as the other Devotion versions. If I judged only the scent, I could leave the boutique without creating a financial incident.
Unfortunately, there is the bottle. The pale powder pink, glossy finish and gold Sacred Heart call my name every time I see them. Dolce&Gabbana knew exactly what it was doing. The perfume may whisper, but the packaging is standing at the counter shouting that it would look magnificent in my collection.
Resistance may therefore become difficult for reasons that have very little to do with olfactory necessity. Life is short, the bottle is pink and my principles have always been flexible around beautiful perfume packaging.
Does it deserve a place in the collection?
For now, my answer is not yet. My Devotion is polished, airy and more versatile than the sweeter members of the line. I can imagine it working beautifully in spring, summer and daytime situations where the original Devotion might feel too rich.
However, it is also the least distinctive Devotion on my skin. The luxury shampoo opening is enjoyable, the fruit cocktail sweetness is charming and the soft drydown is perfectly pleasant, but none of those elements creates the emotional pull I get from the original or the Intense.
Collection verdict: 3 out of 5. Not a full-bottle priority, but not safely dismissed either. That powder pink bottle continues to conduct psychological warfare, and I refuse to make promises about my future behavior.
