Linda, the Black Opium has survived more reinventions than most pop stars, and YSL has now found a fresh reason to send it back on tour.

After Black Opium Over Red gave the franchise a cherry phase, Pink Glaze continues the fruit bowl strategy with strawberry, green mandarin and bergamot. The result sounds brighter, sweeter and more immediately playful than the original. The coffee is still employed, but it is no longer running the company.

What does Black Opium Pink Glaze smell like?

YSL places a naturally extracted strawberry note at the centre of the launch. Pink Glaze should appeal to fans of fruity gourmands, strawberry perfumes and the sweeter side of the Black Opium collection. Anyone who enjoys Over Red but prefers strawberry to cherry is the clearest audience. It may also suit people who like coffee in perfume as a supporting shadow rather than the dominant event.

If the original Black Opium already feels too sweet, this is unlikely to be the sensible route back into the family. And if you want a dark, bitter coffee fragrance, a perfume marketed around juicy strawberry and party energy is probably not planning to meet that request. Sampling remains cheaper than arguing with the bottle after purchase.

Black Opium Pink Glaze is not pretending to solve a problem perfumery has never addressed. Strawberry gourmands are everywhere, and Black Opium already has a crowded family tree. If YSL preserves enough coffee, jasmine and patchouli beneath the pink surface, Pink Glaze could feel like a genuine Black Opium with a new appetite. If the strawberry and amber woods take over completely, it risks becoming another pleasant fruity gourmand wearing a famous surname. For now, it belongs on the test list. The bottle, unfortunately, already belongs on the temptation list.
