Dolce&Gabbana has added Velvet Amber Sage to its Velvet Collection, pairing one of perfumery’s most familiar warm materials with an aromatic note that can turn green, herbal and unexpectedly textured. The fragrance is currently appearing at major US retailers as a new 100 ml Eau de Parfum, with a composition built around clary sage, praline, cinnamon, roasted tonka bean, amber and cedarwood.
The name sounds restrained. The note list is less innocent. Praline and roasted tonka bean place a gourmand undertone beneath the sage, while cinnamon and amber push the structure toward warmth. The question is whether the aromatic freshness remains visible once the sweeter and more enveloping materials begin to gather around it.
A New Amber in the Velvet Collection
The Velvet Collection is Dolce&Gabbana’s higher-priced fragrance line, recognizable by its weighty rectangular bottles, fabric-covered cylindrical caps and engraved golden plaques. Velvet Amber Sage follows that visual system closely: dark amber liquid, near-black outer glass, a sand-colored cap and a black velvet presentation box.
The packaging makes the intended mood clear before the first spray. This is not presented as a bright botanical sage fragrance. The amber-colored liquid and gold details position it as warm and opulent, while the sage imagery supplies the contrast that separates it from a conventional sweet amber.

Amber fragrances are not exactly underrepresented, and praline, cinnamon and tonka bean are hardly strangers to modern launches. Clary sage is what gives Velvet Amber Sage a reason to exist on paper. If it remains prominent, its herbal texture could keep the composition from settling into the familiar pattern of sweet amber plus spice.
The official retailer copy describes aromatic freshness balancing a warm and inviting character. That is a useful promise, but still a promise. The formula will need to show whether sage functions as a genuine structural contrast or merely as the green opening before the gourmand materials take over.

A Familia Bottle with a Darker Mood
The visual campaign treats amber almost as a physical object. Golden translucent forms appear beside sage leaves on a glossy black surface, while the bottle’s dark glass turns the liquid into a concentrated reddish-brown glow. Another image places Velvet Amber Sage at the front of the wider Velvet Collection, confirming that the new fragrance is designed as a continuation rather than a visual reset.
This consistency is useful for collectors and slightly dangerous for shelves already trying to negotiate their remaining capacity. The bottle is immediately recognizable, although the combination of the pale cap, dark glass and amber center gives this release its own identity within the line.

Whether it earns a place beside the existing Velvet ambers will depend on balance. If the sage survives beyond the opening, the fragrance may offer a genuinely aromatic interpretation of gourmand warmth. If it disappears quickly, the result could be a handsome but familiar amber. For now, this is a preview with a strong visual identity and one very good reason to test it rather than blind-buy it: the interesting part is exactly the part a note list cannot settle.
